SPECIAL PEOPLE

When you hear someone say, ‘special people’, you are most likely thinking of someone who is born into a privileged life, someone who has a special talent or someone who stands out in a way that makes them in your mind better than you. If you spend just one day with the true special people you are then more likely to think of someone born with a disability which makes  their life just a bit more challenging. A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege to help out with the VIP(Very Inspirational People) games, if you have heard of the Special Olympics that is what VIP is like it’s just another choice for children with disabilities to participate in sports activities like Floor Hockey, Basketball, Bocce, Swimming and Track and Field. Both organizations obviously provide a  tremendous avenue for these amazing children and adults with disabilities.

I call it a privilege to help out because it truly is, it is humbling. We get so caught up in our own lives and sweating all the small stuff we forget just how blessed our lives really are and we find out just how blessed these special people’s lives actually are. They are such a joy to be around because they are so joyful, they have such a passion for life, they really know how to live in each moment and enjoy the  here and now. The rest of us are most likely thinking about what we did yesterday what may  happen tomorrow, our list of to do’s that keeps growing and all the while we never live for the moment in front of us. Each time I go out to one of these events I really learn a valuable lesson to just be, just be in the moment, this is where the magic happens when you are enjoying your moments. We sometimes look at the disabled as not being able to completely live life when in actuality they have been blessed with learning  how to do so, to be present in the moment they are given we can learn so much from them if we set aside our arrogance.  While we get stuck thinking of what if’s, could of’s and should of’s, for them that is a complete waste of time that takes away from the time we are given, whether they realize it or not they truly have figured this whole life thing out! You go to these events thinking you are going to be of such great help when in reality they are helping you love your life for what it is at this very moment. They are just freaken amazing to be around……. Wonderful!
