TEAM RIKE

Imagine being happily married to the love of your life, joyfully enjoying motherhood to a 5 year old little girl and newborn 2 ½ week old little boy and feeling like there isn’t a human on earth you would trade lives with and then in an instant your whole world changes. You are told that your husband, little girl and baby have died in a car crash, no longer a wife no longer a mother the roles you cherished the most that you just were that very morning no longer exist.

“Team Rike” was inscribed in the wedding bands of Rick and Abby and their 2 children completed the team until that fateful day in 2006 when Rick, daughter Macy and son Caleb were killed. Abby was left to try and deal with this unimaginable tragedy, fast forward 3 years and if you tuned into Biggest Loser you met Abby. For the past 3 years she has been trying to deal with the death of her husband and 2 children and the one way she was able to do so was with the comfort of food, she obviously had gone thru intense grief and depression and the only way she could relate to others was in a social setting with food. Hell do you blame her?? It’s hard for the mind to wrap itself around such a tragedy yet Abby decided she wanted to live, feel the joy of life again to not just get up every day but to live each day to the fullest.

Last week Abby’s team on the Biggest Loser lost the weigh in and so that means you have to send one player home from your team and Abby volunteered to be that person. She said she joined the show to learn to let people in again, to care again, to feel love for others again instead of turning to food for comfort. Abby has gone from 247 pounds to 165! But more importantly she has done what she wanted to do heal herself from the inside out and to actually start planning for her future instead of just getting thru a day. When you think you don’t have the strength to overcome your struggles think of Abby and dig deep within yourself and let her story be an inspiration that you can and you will. As tragic as Abby’s story is she wants to turn it into triumph and that helps to make this A Wonderful Life.
