One of my all time favorite songs is The Dance by Garth Brooks. First time I heard the song (way back when!) the words really touched me, I felt they were more about really living life and not missing a moment regardless of the pain, otherwise you may miss the dance. The other day when I was jogging on the treadmill I was watching some music videos and the one for The Dance came on and I just started bawling. I had forgotten how great that video was, it highlighted some inspiring lives such as Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy. People that lived their lives to the fullest and didn’t take their callings for granted, they enjoyed the dance regardless of the pain.
Many years ago my father passed away (God rest his soul) and this was the song, the song that reminded me of him. My father never took for granted the life he was given, he lived each day to the fullest and made each person that he loved feel special. He lived his life on his terms what made him happy with no apologies. He could care less what you thought of him, he knew he was a good man and those who were lucky enough to have known him, knew that as well. At his funeral there were so many people, people he had worked with years ago but they still had the upmost respect for the person he was and the love of life that he had. Recently someone I have known for a really long time who has a little bit of years on me…said to me ‘ just enjoy yourself and be happy it all goes by so fast.’ They are right, seeing that video and thinking of my Dad really brought that home. Take the time to enjoy your ride in life, try not to get caught up in all the stupid drama bullshit that takes away from that ride, your one and only ride through life…. enjoy your dance…
