THE TUOHY'S

Okay so I am a little late to the party, I finally saw The Blind Side this weekend and the Oscar’s are this weekend! So by the time you read this we will already know the big winners of the night! I LOVE Sandra Bullock so I had to see her performance since she is up for Best Actress and maybe right now she is sleeping with her Oscar! Man where to begin…this movie was sad, touching, inspiring, frustrating and funny! You leave the theatre and you are inspired by the Tuohy’s, well at least I was! There are a very well to do traditional southern family with HUGE  hearts, who took in a 6 foot 5 really big boy without knowing anything about him really, other than he goes to the same school as their kids and he has nowhere to sleep or eat and yet they trust what their hearts are telling them and that is to help this boy. For you sports fans the boy is Michael Oher who as  you know now plays for the Ravens and without the Tuohy’s I am convinced that kind of opportunity would never have come his way.

According to the story his mother  had a drug problem and a lot of other children, Michael was taken away from  her and was shuffled around. He grew up in one of the toughest parts of Memphis with no direction or guidance and could have easily turned to crime to survive. Unfortunately his story is all too common for  way too many children, their parents are absent or have abandoned  them, schools just push them along never teaching them  how to learn or what to learn and they travel in and out of Foster homes never receiving proper love or guidance that all children need so they can thrive. Then they turn 18 and are just expected to know how to live in this world.

What the Tuohy’s did was so incredible for a lot of reasons and one of them is because most of us wouldn’t so therefore people like the Tuohy’s stand out. Reading Michael’s story this family literally saved his life and he completed their life.  He learned what real love is, being cared for and nurtured having a family believe in him and accept him for who he is and only wanting the best for him. They learned strength, courage and hope from a boy who has succeeded against all odds. When you are looking for some inspiration or are feeling down about your life this movie/story may just be what you need……it is Wonderful!
