So this past weekend Rob’s mom or as he would call her, ‘his crazy mom,’ came over to the house to help me with some stuff. Anyway she was telling me that when she left our house Friday night she just had to stop in her car and take a moment to enjoy the Christmas lights on our street. She said the way the fog was reflecting from the lights was just so beautiful and it was really nice to just sit there and enjoy the moment. Isn’t that was this time of year is all about? Letting yourself if only for a moment at a time stop and enjoy something that really warms your heart? The answer I believe is yes!!

We all know it’s so easy to get caught up with everything we have to do this time of year that by the time it is over we never really got a chance to enjoy the season. Christmas of course means different things to people. If you are a Christian (that would include me!), Christmas is mostly about Christ. So as Christians we should take as many moments as we can to stop and think about the baby Jesus being born and all that means to us. Whether it means going to church, helping the sick and or poor, or just remembering what this time of year is truly about and thanking God for it. Or maybe you are someone who just loves this time of year and you don’t really do the God thing, but you want to make sure you are slowing down just enough to enjoy the baking, wrapping presents, visits with family and friends and whatever traditions you hold dear.

My point is this, don’t let your meaning of Christmas get lost this year. Allow yourself the time to take it all in, try and stay in the moment. Don’t be thinking of all the other shit you have to do for example while you are at that Christmas play, be at the play enjoy the play and think of nothing else. I was just sent a Christmas card with such a great saying from our late President Abraham Lincoln, “The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time.” Christmas will get here but until then enjoy each day and moment of the season one at a time and that will help this to be A Wonderful Life!!
