IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE - ARCHIVES

WOMEN, WE'VE COME A LONG WAY... WELL SORT OF!!

If you weren’t sure before, this Election has proven that yes sexism is very much alive! As women we are of course thankful for all the women before us that fought for our right to vote, our right in the workplace, our ability to do jobs that were once considered a man’s job such as doctors, lawyers, astronauts, police, firefighters to name a few. Today we have women CEO’s, Business Owners, Governors, Senators, Judges, we have women staying home to take care of their children not because they HAVE to but because they WANT to. Huge difference. There was a time that that was all a women could dream for was to be a wife and mother, now a women can do that by choice not because it’s her only choice. And to give you a keeping it real moment, let us not forget about all the women who have dedicated their lives to fight for tougher laws with domestic violence and rape. Yes we have come a long way but we still have a little ways to go.

This Election season sexism has sure reared it’s ugly head! It first started with Hilary Clinton who got way way way more slack than any other of the Candidates at that time from both sides of the aisles. She of course handled it with dignity. She was called bitchy, had she been a man she would have been called strong. She was described as knaggy and whinny, if she were a man she would have been described as stern and grounded in beliefs. Her outfits were even called into question…what the f!!! Does it really matter if she is wearing a pant suit a skirt shirt or a freaken moo moo, apparently it matters what candidates are wearing if they are women, no one ever argued about Barack Obama’s, or John Mc Cain’s outfits, just another example of sexism. People made jokes as to whether she could be logical as a President because of course it is unheard of for women to be logical!! Please give me a break, yes I may be emotional but I can look around and clearly see numerous women who know how to separate their emotion and be logical when need be. Especially a women like Hilary, you can’t be that successful on emotion alone!! She of course was called fat and ugly because that’s what we still do when it comes to women we must check out their face and body first and not their credentials! It was maddening to watch and as I sit here typing I become more mad at myself actually for not backing Hilary!

Well just when we thought the sexism of this election was over here came Sarah Palin. I am not even sure if there are any men who actually know what she stands for! They are so busy undressing this woman with their eyes. So damn degrading! You’d think that the main Google searches for her would be her bio, what she stands for etc….nope, more like Palin naked, Palin in a bikini are you freaking serious! This is a women if elected V.P is one step away from the Presidency  and you men want to see her naked! Also disturbing was all the talk about her still being able to be a mom…oh my blood starts to really boil on this one. Has anyone questioned whether Obama, Biden or Mc Cain will still be able to be dads? The answer is a big fat NO! Did anyone ask President Bush, Former President’s Clinton, Carter, Reagan etc…if they would still be able to juggle parenthood,, again a BIG FAT NO!! Women every freaken day in this country are mothers and have careers, and when you have a supportive husband which it seems Palin does, the husbands are more than capable of stepping in and taking care of their own children when their wife might be too busy. Are we really saying here that women can climb as many ladders as they want but when it comes to President or V.P that is where we draw the line if they have small children when we never drew that line for men, are we really saying that men aren’t capable of taking care of their own children if their wife is busy being President of V.P?? Is this how ugly sexism really still is? Call Palin out on her beliefs, her policies but not whether she is capable of being a mom and V.P and please don’t vote for her just because you find her pretty. Although sexism  has been alive and well from Hilary to Palin, it has awakened the female spirit to continue to fight sexism regardless of whether you are a Democrat or Republican. American women are mother’s, grandmother’s, aunts, sister’s cousins and girlfriends and we are here to fight sexism for our future female generations and that helps this to be A Wonderful Life!
